Abstract

The European Union recognizes long-term care as an element of the European Pillar of Social Rights. This care refers to the organization and provision of a wide range of services and assistance to people whose ability to live independently is limited over a long period. These services are aimed at minimizing the degree of loss of independence in physical and mental functioning, restoring fitness, or preventing the effects of its loss.

The article evaluates the current state of existing forms of long-term care and the benefits granted under the Polish legislation in the social and medical assistance system. At the same time, it points to the need to increase the development and availability of long-term care services for Polish seniors. This translates into a dignified life for seniors. A dignified life for older people is multidimensional and requires a holistic strategy to improve their living conditions. The research thesis of this article is that the demand for long-term care services will increase in the coming years.
