Care space as home, community and workplace. Reflecting upon examples from the British elderly care homes

Anna Sznajder

Abstract

Care spaces are an essential part of aging with dignity. In the case of people living in retirement homes, the ability to create the right environment to live actively every day becomes an element that improves the quality of life of an individual in the group of other seniors. This environment creates both the physical space of shared and individual rooms and the created organizational culture in which the caregivers form a team operating according to specific rules and regulations. The article will present the experience from internships in two independent private nursing homes, which will indicate the possibilities and limitations of supporting an older person's development in the analyzed environments.
