Stimulating socio-educational activity in older age

Tadeusz Aleksander

Abstract

The article discusses the topic of the socio-educational activities of older adults. In the beginning, the author presents theoretical considerations on the distinction between the concepts of activity and activation. The article aims to show what forms of activity older people can engage in from the perspective of two lifestyles in old age: passive and active, which can become elements of education for old age. The article presents various areas, forms, and ways of spending time with seniors. The author relates them to the model of successful aging, which is intended to function as a wise and intensive activation of seniors. The author’s proposed process of socio-educational activities for seniors can promote personal life satisfaction for the senior but also, in a social dimension, influence the life satisfaction of a wider community of older adults. The author sees hopes for strengthening this satisfaction in the constantly expanding range of forms of senior activity. The article also advocates for wise education for old age, focused on creating the lives of seniors.
