„Passion for life” – innovative activation programme for elderly people, the case of Sweden

Kaja Zapędowska-Kling

Abstract

With the focus on the concept of positive aging, the article analyzes Scandinavian determinants of active aging and presents Sweden as a European leader in activating older people. It draws on the case study of the "Passion for life" (Passiön för Livet) project, which is discussed as an example of a successful, accessible, and low-budget form of seniors' activation. The article evaluates the project, presents its main assumptions, goals, and thematic areas. This publication is a result of a scientific visit to the Institute of Gerontology, Jönköping University, Sweden, where I had an opportunity to meet and talk with one of the initiators of the project.

Keywords:

active ageing, the Nordic model, life-long learning
