Seniors as creators of public policy – examples of good practice: The Third Age Forum

Ewa Piłat

Abstract

In social policy, there has been a considerable change in the attitude towards the elderly in Poland. The activity of state institutions, so far focused on fulfilling the basic needs of the most dependent seniors, has begun to support healthy aging and independent and satisfying life in old age. The senior policy is created from the basics with the public and social partnership. Society is represented by active seniors participating, among others, in Poland's most significant social movement after the period of political transformation, that is The Third Age Universities movement (Polish: UTW). In 2015 over 550 Third Age Universities gathered 160,000 active older persons.
