UNVEILING THE SURGE OF TERRORISM
ANALYSING EAST AFRICA’S BATTLE AGAINST EXTREMISM, SPOTLIGHT ON MOZAMBIQUE
Abstract
The goal of this article is to show the growing threat of terrorism in the so-called
East African corridor. Leaky borders in Africa allow terrorist groups to spread beyond
the borders of the country in which they are established. An example of this is
the province of Cabo Delgado in Mozambique, where Ansar al-Sunna, also known
as ‘Al-Shabaab of Cabo Delgado’, has begun to control it. The weakness of the state
and their institutions makes the fight against extremists difficult, posing a serious
threat to international and regional security.
