Economic impact of Mexico´s involvement to the North American Free Trade Agreement: the case of foreign trade

Ingrid Majerová

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the effects of the involvement of Mexico to the North American Free Trade Agreement, in which the countries with differ-ent economic maturity are involved. The hypothesis of predominance of positive impacts on the US and Canadian economy, compared with fewer positives on the Mexican economy was determined and subsequently verified. The hypothesis was tested using calculations arising from the development of foreign trade of member countries, applying the method of description, analysis and comparison. Based on these calculations, the hypothesis was rejected due to NAFTA ́s greatest impact on Mexico’s foreign trade.
