Educational activity in old age and attitudes of tolerance or prejudice towards representatives of minorities in Poland

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the correlation between the educational activity (understood as attending a university of the third age) undertaken by the elderly and their attitude of tolerance (understood as tolerance towards representatives of national and religious minorities, people of different skin color, and homosexuals). All study participants were Polish seniors (n = 80). It was assumed that educated people would show less prejudice against minority representatives. The results showed that third-age university students are more tolerant of all minorities than peers who do not participate in educational activities in late adulthood.
